Although Compal Electronics’ notebook ODM volume has not shown as much growth as previously expected, the boost coming from Dell’s E series netbook shipments may help the company achieve its annual shipments goal of 32 million units in 2008, according to sources in the notebook industry.
Dell’s 8.9-inch E series netbook is expected to provide Compal with monthly shipments of around 250,000 units, while the 10-inch model, which is scheduled to be launched in October, is expected to have monthly shipments of around 400,000-450,000 units.
Compal only shipped around 6.33 million notebooks in the second quarter this year, but with Dell outsourcing more than two million notebooks to Compal in the third quarter – and with the Dell E series netbooks’ potential shipments being around 1.8-2 million units, Compal may be able to maintain its original shipment goal for 2008, noted the sources.
